How Some of Our Customers Are Using
OpenAccess
MetaMatrix (http://www.metamatrix.com)
has licensed the OpenAccess ODBC SDK for Java to support ODBC compliant
access to the MetaMatrix Server. MetaMatrix is a virtual data layer
used to integrate disparate data sources. MetaMatrix combines enterprise
information integration and enterprise metadata management to deliver
the most powerful solution available for building sustainable, low-maintenance,
flexible infrastructures to power the real-time enterprise.
After extensive evaluation of various options to provide standard
connectivity, including other competitive third party solutions
as well as building this capability in-house, MetaMatrix determined
that OpenAccess product provided a robust solution that met their
needs both technically and economically. The support for Java made
it possible for MetaMatrix engineers to quickly integrate OpenAccess
with their Java based MetaMatrix server. The ability to take advantage
of multiple CPU on Windows and Sun Solaris to service concurrent
requests was a must for an enterprise software vendor like MetaMatrix.
National Instruments (http://www.ni.com)
has licensed OpenAccess ODBC SDK to enable ODBC access to their
Citadel product. Citadel is a historical database used by many of
National Instruments products. OpenAccess SDK will be used to develop
a ODBC driver to replace an existing ODBC driver that has various
limitations. National Instruments chose OpenAccess over the competitor's
products based on the ease of use, robustness, and technical support.
The level of compliance to the ODBC and SQL standards and the extensive
testing with third-party tools allows National Instrument to provide
its customer with an ODBC/SQL option that works as well as the ones
they use when connecting to SQL Server and Oracle.
Noetix (http://www.noetix.com)
has licensed the OpenAccess ODBC SDK to support Siebel within their
NETS product. OpenAccess will be used to create a ODBC driver for
Siebel so that NETs can access the Siebel data as if it were a SQL
data source. Noetix provides infrastructure software that rapidly
unlocks business data, allowing companies to manage the secure distribution
of corporate data across the wired and wireless Internet.
Noetix was able to take advantage of OpenAccess's extensive SQL
support and its ability to efficiently execute queries over a COM
interface to expose Siebel as if it were a RDBMS. Noetix had to
use the COM API supplied by Siebel instead of going directly to
Siebel's data store in order to gain Siebel partner certification.
Escher Group (http://www.eschergroup.com)
has licensed the OpenAccess ODBC SDK to implement an ODBC driver
for its ReposteŽ product. Escher Group is a leading provider of
peer-to-peer messaging and data management solutions and services.
The company offers a business-to-business XML-based transaction
management environment used in thousands of locations worldwide.
OpenAccess layers a SQL engine over the large message store and
allows queries to be efficiently executed against this store.
Escher Group was able to take advantage of the join optimization
features or OpenAccess to expose their hierarchical structured data
store as related tables and still provide efficient query processing.
Unity Enterprise Solutions, Ltd. (http://www.unitysolutions.co.uk)
has licensed the OpenAccess ODBC SDK and the OpenAccess DQP products
to allow accessing JD Edwards data through ODBC. OpenAccess Software
professional services group will perform the initial coding. The
finished product allows JD Edwards installations to use off-the-
shelf tools like Crystal Reports and Microsoft Access to easily
create reports that pull together data stored in one or more physical
databases.
Unity Enterprises took advantage of the Distributed Query Processing
feature of OpenAccess to allow the execution of a query over multiple
databases that support SQL. Through the DQP a global schema is exposed
to make the distributed JDE OneWorld data store appears as a single
SQL database with meaningful column and table names.
GTECH (http://www.gtech.com)
has licensed the OpenAccess ODBC SDK to integrate existing business
logic into a ODBC compliant application platform. GTECH is the world's
leading provider of authorized gaming systems to the lottery industry.
Its core strengths are secure, high-volume transaction processing;
network integration; infrastructure development; and government
contracting. OpenAccess will allow GTECH to take out their current
solution based on Sybase OpenServer and plug in a custom ODBC solution
based on OpenAccess.
The OpenAccess based server acts as a gateway between the client
applications and the backend data stores that include DB/2, custom
RPC servers, and memory. This allows Gtech to isolate the client
applications from where the data actually resides but at the same
time continue using ODBC as the API. ODBC was critical because the
back office suite of applications used to run lottery systems require
ODBC.
Interact Commerce (http://www.saleslogix.com)
licensed OpenAccess OLE DB SDK for its SalesLogix product. Interact
is the leading provider of relationship management software for
mid-market companies and small office/home office businesses. The
company is known for building products that are easy to use, quick
to deploy, and provide anytime, anywhere access to critical information.
The company's products include SalesLogix, the mid-market CRM leader
(customer relationship management) used by over 3,500 companies;
and ACT!, the best-selling contact manager used by more than 3.2
million professionals and 11,000 corporations. Press
Release
Interact leveraged OpenAccess OLE DB SDK to create a custom provider
to allow third-party application developers to take advantage of
the ease of programming that ADO and ADO.NET offer and still enforce
business logic and security on all data that goes in and out of
the SalesLogix CRM system.
ObjectStar International (http://www.objectstar.com)
licensed the OpenAccess ODBC SDK for ObjectStar, a leading edge,
open, Rapid Application Development and Deployment environment.
ObjectStar provides a strong solution for wrapping legacy systems
and, via standards-based programmatic interfaces, allowing them
to be active participants in composite applications built with technologies
such as J2EE Connector Architecture, Enterprise JavaBeans, Web services,
and NET.
The use of OpenAccess allows ObjecStar to expose its integration
platform as a virtual SQL database that is accessible through ODBC,
thus opening it up to hundreds of analysis, reporting, and development
tools in use today.
Partech, Inc. (http://www.partech.com)
licensed OpenAccess OLE DB SDK and had OpenAccess Software professional
services group design and build the OLE-DB provider for InFusion,
a POS(Point of Sale) application and reporting tools, used at restaurants.
ParTech has installed over 25,000 of its industry leading Point-of-Sale
systems in over 95 countries worldwide and is also one of the leading
service providers to the restaurant systems market.
OpenAccess allowed Partech to implement a custom OLE DB provider
over a proprietary file data store to allow the integration of this
data with data in SQL Server through the SQL Server linked server
feature. It also allowed them have a phased approach to converting
over their application to use SQL Server. By having OLE DB for InFusion
they were able to convert some of the module to use ADO and SQL
and leave the rest the way they were. Once all the modules were
converted then they could release a version for SQL Server without
much change.
Invensys plc.(http://www.invensys.com)
has licensed OpenAccess ODBC SDK to provide ODBC access to their
energy management system. Invensys is a global leader in production

SCADA and real-time information management platform. The SCADA Solutions
Division is a leading worldwide supplier of supervisory control
and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for oil & gas pipelines, electrical
and water/waste-water utilities.
Telvent is using OpenAccess to implement a custom OLE DB provider
and ODBC driver for use by their GUI applications and for allowing
customers to get to the application data using standard tools. By
making their data source ADO compliant they are able to use off
the shelf components for grids and forms and their developers are
able to apply their knowledge in the use of ADO for accessing their
data store. The support for Windows authentication (NTLM and Kerberos)
in OpenAccess allowed the provider to be integrated with the Metso
authentication such that users don't need to log into ODBC/OLE DB
compliant applications when connecting to the Metso data store.
Honeywell licensed OpenAccess OLE DB SDK to develop OLE
DB providers for their real-time data sources. Honeywell's Automation
& Control Solutions provides Products and Services to control heating,
